cleaning air ductsAir duct cleaning is one of the most popular topics being discussed today and has been gaining more popularity over the past few months.  Many homeowners understand the importance of having their ducts cleaned, but some homeowners are not familiar with the seriousness of having annual inspections.  This is the primary reason why many local, federal, and private agencies are starting to devote more money into campaigns that raise awareness about air duct cleaning. Even the EPA has issued guidelines for indoor air quality.

Air quality within the home should not be ignored or overlooked.  Poor air quality can lead to serious health problems.  Asthma, bronchitis, lung diseases, allergies, eye problems, and sinus issues are known to be related to poor indoor air quality. This is why many leading physicians are encouraging their patients to get regular air duct cleanings.

A significant amount of dirt and debris can build-up within air ducts over a period of time.  Researchers have discovered that dirt and debris can lower the effectiveness of the cooling and heating system, creating unnecessary wear-and-tear.  A clogged system is unable to circulate quality air within the home.

Many people are under the impression that they don’t need to hire a professional air duct cleaning company.  Unfortunately, this type of thinking can cause serious problems for their health in the long run.  A professional air duct cleaning company can inspect your ducts without any cost.  They are able to determine if you have any dirt or debris lingering within your ducts.  They also are able to remove these items safely, and without making a mess in your home.  Additionally, a professional can determine if there’s any balancing issues or sealing issues, which can be an even bigger problem than the cleaning itself. And like your health, early detection is important for your furnace as a cracked furnace could leak life threatening carbon monoxide.  It is vital to have an air duct cleaning and complete heating and cooling inspection performed every year by a professional and to have that trusted professional inspect your other critical systems.

Who Should Get Air Duct Cleaning

  • Houses with any smokers
  • If you see a buildup of dust on your register vents
  • If you have pets
  • If you recently did any home updates/repairs
  • Residents with allergies or asthma
  • You suspect mold

It is vital that you contact a professional air duct cleaning company for an annual inspection once to twice a year.  An exceptional company will be able to provide you with quality air duct cleaning at a reasonable price. For more info, visit our air duct cleaning FAQ page.

Air Conditioning DallasThere’s nothing better than walking inside a home with great air conditioning on a hot and humid summer day.  Escaping the stifling heat and humidity outside into an oasis of cool, dry air is something that can easily be taken for granted when your A/C system works at its peak.  What a disappointment it can be to  expect this welcome relief and to walk into a home and discover the normally great working air conditioning to be down with problems.  Fortunately, most home air conditioning problems can be repaired and brought back into that great working order again at a fraction of the cost of replacing the system.  In addition, ac repair often takes much less time than replacing an air conditioning system.

While most air conditioning systems work efficiently for many years, there are a few problems that can develop. One of the most common problems is a system that won’t turn on, which could be caused by any one of numerous problems. Others may have a unit that runs and runs and runs, yet the house never cools down. Beyond the aforementioned, there’s also leaks, noises, and distribution issues where some rooms get cool and others stay warm. Regardless of the issue, calling a trained air conditioning specialist can save you a lot of time and headache of trying to diagnose the issue yourself.

The Main Parts of a Home Central Air System

  • Refrigerant
  • Compressor
  • Condenser
  • Evaporator

One of the more common problems with an air conditioning system is a system getting low on refrigerant.  Refrigerant is a gas that is compressed into a liquid to transfer the heat out of the home where it is expelled to the outside.  When the system is low on refrigerant, it cannot effectively transfer the heat and the air conditioning system does not work as well as normal.  While the air conditioning may offer some cooling when low on refrigerant, the home will not be as cool and the unit will run longer than normal.

The compressor of the unit transforms the refrigerant from a gas into a liquid.  The liquid is then pumped through the coils inside the home where it evaporates back into a gas.  This evaporation process is responsible for the cooling or removal of heat from the home.  If the air conditioning compressor stops working, there is no cooling of the home.

From the compressor the hot, high pressure gas flows into the condenser. Here the pressurized hot refrigerant vapor is cooled by the condenser fan as it moves through the finned coils. If you looked at the air conditioner part outside a house, look for the part that has metal fins all around it. The fins help dissipate the heat.

The liquid then enters the evaporator, through a very small hole, and the liquid turns back into a gas and begins to evaporate. During the evaporation process, it also extracts heat from the air and cools it. The cold air is then blown out of the air conditioner and circulates throughout the house by the air ducts.

As you can see, an air conditioning system is really quite simple and can be repaired in many cases. In most instances, homeowners will find that the least expensive option to have air conditioning working in the home again is to repair the existing unit.  In addition, under most circumstances, the repairs can be made to the air conditioning sooner than it could be replaced.

Plumbing issues can be stressful and can arise at any moment without warning, making choosing a good plumbing company even more stressful. When a plumbing crisis arises in your home, it is important to assess the situation calmly and shrewdly so you may arrive to the best possible solution, or contact a good plumbing company.

When choosing a plumbing company, one must take into account several things:

  1. Issue identification. What is the issue at hand? Do you need professional drain cleaning? Is your water heater leaking? Do you have a slab leak? What about a gas line leak? Whatever the case, make sure that the plumbing company you choose can not only service your problem, but also some of the other plumbing problems listed so you don’t have to find a new company should one of those issues arise in the future.
  2. Is the plumbing company you are choosing licensed and insured? You better check to see if they are, or it could cost you more in the long run.
  3. How is the plumbing company rated with the Better Business Bureau? Ideally, you would look for an A+ BBB rating.
  4. Does the plumbing company offer financing options or senior discounts?
  5. Recognition. How is the plumbing company you are considering reviewed in Google Places or elsewhere on the Internet? Are they an Angie’s List Super Service Award winner?

Other Services a Good Plumbing Company Should Handle

Most plumbers should be able to do drain cleaning, handle various water leaks, and install/fix/replace water heaters, but when searching for a good plumbing company, you should also consider hydro jetting service, water softeners, hydro jetting service, and cross-connection testing should you ever need something “less ordinary.” Beyond even plumbing, does the company you are looking at also take care of HVAC, insulation, do energy audits, or any other services that you could use and save time looking for? A simple drain cleaning, could turn into a free energy audit, could result in you saving money on your energy costs, and essentially cover the cost of the drain cleaning. Wouldn’t that be nice!
