Furnace Inspections: Tune-up & Check-up

Heating systems tend to fail at the very worst time which is why now is the perfect time to consider getting a furnace check up or a furnace tune up. At the very least, turning on the heater to make sure it is working before cold weather strikes is a must do. You will probably get that initial "heater smell" which is simply the dust being burned off from the long summer months. Be sure to open some windows to clear out the smell more quickly.

Furnace Check Up

A furnace check up covers everything from the most basic preventative issues to more important issues such as carbon monoxide testing. It is common, but potentially dangerous, to store "summer items" around furnaces such as gas-powered lawn equipment. Clutter around the furnace should be cleared out before use.

Other check up items include thermostat operation and, as previously mentioned, carbon monoxide testing for gas furnaces. Electric furnace owners should have their unit inspected for causes of loss of energy efficiency such as dust and dirt build up.

Furnace Tune Up

Once a furnace check up has been performed, a tune up can be performed to get the peak performance out of your heating system. A tune up could include replacement of any parts that might be failing or ready to fail, cleaning of the system, and cleaning of the burners.
